USBE Licensure Points & SUU Credit

This form has been created to earn USBE licensure hours OR SUU college credit for your attendance at the Utah Rural Schools Conference.  Only one type of "credit" may be earned.  In order to earn SUU credit, you must attend the whole conference including one presentation per time slot, and each keynote address.  You must also register with SUU and submit a payment of $23.  Points/Credit will be given for only the completed sections below.
  1. This option requires that you attend the whole conference and participate in all keynotes and presentation sessions while also completing the reflection assignment below.
  2. To register for SUU credit follow the three steps detailed here!  Please note that if you don’t already have an SUU T number, it will take up to 48 hours to complete that step in the registration process.  SUU Policies.

Bring Earth and space science to life with three powerful, free digital tools your students will love! This hands-on session introduces Stellarium, Universe Sandbox, and NOAA’s Science On a Sphere Explorer (SOSx)—interactive platforms that make complex science concepts more engaging and accessible.

Use Stellarium to take your students on a virtual journey through the night sky. They'll model lunar phases, eclipses, and seasons, explore planetary motion, and visualize the Sun-Earth-Moon system.

Then, experiment with Universe Sandbox, a physics-based space simulator where students can create their own solar systems, simulate orbital dynamics, and investigate gravitational interactions—an innovative way to deepen understanding of planetary motion and forces.

Finally, dive into SOS Explorer, a tool for visualizing real-world data on Earth’s systems. Students can explore weather patterns, long-term data, atmospheric circulation, and the natural greenhouse effect with interactive datasets from NOAA.

Job stress and burnout are a significant threat to that work. As a follow up to last summer’s presentation, this workshop will extend the discussion of challenges of burnout and resilience for schools to examine specific strategies that school leaders, teachers, and staff can use to proactively understand and address burnout issues from both the organizational and personal perspectives, and support optimized classroom experiences for students. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the USMHC framework, guiding participants through the process of implementing a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) for student mental health.

Attendees will be taken on a journey to explore the three-tiered approach of the USMHC Model, beginning with Tier 1, which focuses on school-wide mental health promotion, faculty engagement, and the integration of prevention initiatives. The session will highlight data-driven decision-making using tools like SWTRS and SSWQ, discuss universal screening practices in alignment with Utah laws and USBE-approved screeners (e.g., PHQ, GAD), and examine sustainable funding strategies.

The discussion will then shift to Tier 2, emphasizing targeted interventions for students at increased risk, and Tier 3, which provides intensive individualized support and refined referral processes. Presenters will also address strategies to assist students whose needs extend beyond Tier 3 services.

A key feature of this session is demonstrating how districts and schools can use the SHAPE Assessment to evaluate the strengths and areas for improvement within their comprehensive school mental health system. Too often students who are severely credit deficient become hopeless and drop out of school. The new Focused Graduation Pathway (FGP) provides these students with the opportunity to stay in school and acquire the necessary high school level knowledge and skills needed to pass the GED® test. The FGP will provide a student with a High School Credential and allow them to graduate in the same year as their peers. This session will provide a brief overview of the GED® test and the FGP, including how to bring the pathway into your school or district.
