Understanding Weather: Heat, Water, and Air

Clark Planetarium offers teacher resources aligned with sixth grade SEEd standards. In this session, participants will explore our Energy and Weather kits (Strands 6.3 and 6.4) and Density kits (Strands 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3). Hands-on investigations reveal how different materials retain and release heat, supporting an understanding of how the Sun drives weather patterns. Participants will collect experimental data, graph and compare the effects of heat energy, and link their findings to local, regional, and global phenomena. We’ll also demonstrate how a two-compartment tank can model the role of heat energy in driving ocean and atmospheric currents. These resources emphasize three-dimensional learning, support data analysis practices, and help bring complex Earth systems to life in the classroom.

Kinesthetic Astronomy

In our hands-on session, we will practice how to implement kinesthetic activities aligned with fourth-grade SEEd standards, specifically Strand 4.4. We will develop models for day/night cycles, changing constellations throughout the year, and for why our Sun is the brightest star. By using our bodies to model the Earth, participants will demonstrate how rotation and revolution cause the cycles of day and night and changing constellations throughout the year. Participants will also become individual stars by holding an LED light as they investigate how distance relates to perceived brightness and will work together to form the constellation of Orion. This session will emphasize the use of models and how they provide evidence for constructing explanations of astronomical phenomena. Clark Planetarium is pleased to offer a kit of free, take-away materials for teachers to apply the activities in their classroom. Building Dignity in Schools: Exploring the Dignity Index

Utah schools are abuzz with the transformative potential of the Dignity Index, a tool designed to ease divisions, decrease violence, and solve problems through constructive dialogue. This session offers a comprehensive review of the Dignity Index and explores practical approaches and strategies for implementing it in school and district settings. The new Youth Versions Index (K-3 and 4-8th grades) will be shared along with applications for these age groups.
Participants will gain access to valuable resources for introducing the Index to students, practice scoring and skill-building with real-life scenarios, and receive a roadmap for launching Students for Dignity clubs in their districts. Ideal for educators, administrators, and anyone working with youth, this session equips you to foster a culture of dignity and collaboration within your school community.

This presentation will cover the skills of storytelling and how research has confirmed the place of narrative in improving student hope levels. The concept of improv will also be presented as a means for students in any class to create stories with expression, and how these activities can also increase teacher self efficacy and PLC collective efficacy.

Experiences and research data from the presenters doctoral work will also be included.

It is anticipated that the presentation will be displayed through PowerPoint, lecture, and voluntary audience participation.
