This is a Demo Slam style presentation and we will host the demos in video form (This makes the presentation go very smoothly). The participants will get to see us present the videos and then vote on the video/tool that they think is the best! If you are unable to physically attend the session, that's still OK. We have had this situation in the past where one of our team members was unable to be there at UCET. We can still present your video on your behalf! The rules will be as follows: Each Google Certified Educator will submit one video Video must demonstrate use of Google tools/add-ons/extensions/etc. Demonstration portion of the video must be ≤ 2 minutes Video must include a brief introduction (may be outside of the 2 minute time limit) Video must conclude with a “SLAM".

New teacher attrition is a concern for all school systems, especially small or rural schools. Learn current research insights regarding new teacher induction. Discuss ways to design effective mentoring and induction activities based on research. Brainstorm with the group about what works in various Utah settings and how we can do better. Participation, interaction, sharing of best practices, and learning ways to impact new teacher retention in your setting will be a key part of this presentation. A team approach to addressing chronic absenteeism in schools, specifically in the early learning grades. Students who are chronically absent in the early learning grades of K-3, where students are learning to read, are at extreme risk of developing large gaps in their learning. These gaps manifest themselves in the later grades when students are reading to learn. Additionally, research has shown that absenteeism is a learned behavior that begins in the early, learning to read, grades. Research has linked chronic absenteeism to adolescent risk taking behavior that increases the probability that a student will drop out of school and/or end up in the juvenile justice system.

Duchesne County School District has teamed up with North Eastern Counceling, Uintah School District, V6 Media and our local Prevention Advisory Coalition to bring awareness to all stakeholders of the need to address chronic absenteeism at all levels of schooling, but especially in the early grades of K-3. Come learn with us how we can better address the problem of chronic absenteeism.
