About me
Sarah Allen, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Family Life and Human Development at Southern Utah University. She received her doctorate in Family Relations and Applied Nutrition from the University of Guelph in Ontario Canada. Over the past 25+ years her research and teaching has centered individual, family, and community health and well-being. Sarah is an award winning teacher and has over 50 research publications in the domains of couple divorce ideation and decision-making, the impact of father involvement on child development outcomes, the division of household labor, work-family balance, the meaning and construction of home places, the impact of maternal gatekeeping on co-parenting, curriculum design, implementation and evaluation, and rural Indigenous mental, physical and relational health. She has been an invited guest speaker at numerous venues including the National Council on Family Relations, the Utah Healthy Marriage Commission, and TEDxSUU. Her research has been highlighted in media outlets including Audible, CBC, The Wall Street Journal, US News, World Report, and Time Magazine. Sarah is dedicated to promoting health equity through relationship building, education, outreach, law, and public policy and believes research should be translated to communities in ways that will improve their lives. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys road biking, skiing, backpacking, yoga, playing the piano, and going on big outdoor adventures with her family and dog.
